Lead with love, save to serve.

Our Story

Established in 2007, Planting A Seed International (PASI) started when Harriet  Page-Wulukau and her son, Matthew Wulukau, Jr., returned to Liberia after a 14-year civil war. This coincided with Liberia's shift towards peace and stability under former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Seeing the challenges, especially in Harriet's hometown, Owens Grove, the duo founded PASI. Owens Grove, a settlement founded by freed slaves, struggled to rebuild after the war.

While visiting Owens Grove Elementary and Junior High School, they found serious educational gaps—lack of teachers, resources, and basic facilities. This prompted the creation of PASI, driven by Harriet's goal to restore hope through education. Matthew, her son, played a key role in realizing this vision. Together, they aimed to make a positive impact on Liberia's education, recognizing it as the key to a better future for communities recovering from the war.

Since 2017, PASI has implemented a study abroad/service-learning program, kicking off its initial service abroad trip Liberia, West Africa. This effort later extended to encompass Senegal and Tanzania. Over 200 students from diverse colleges and universities, representing more than 20 institutions, have been given the opportunity to engage in varied service-learning projects focusing on Education, Career Development, Health, and Global Diplomacy. Presently, PASI operates in over 4 countries.
